Application Documents for Certification Fee Waiver Lottery

In partnership with FEMA, IAEM is putting together a cohort of individuals interested in pursuing certification with the IAEM Certified Emergency Manager Program. This opportunity is available to AEM® and CEM® applicants. Selected individuals will have their certification and preparatory course fees waived (a $1,000 value)!

Please carefully review the qualifications outlined below before submitting your notice of interest. 

  1. Open to individuals who have not yet submitted the IAEM Certification application, taken the certification exam or submitted the application fee;
  2. Interested applicants must be employed full- or part-time as emergency managers in one of the following jurisdictions to apply:
    • City/county
    • Other local government entity
    • State/territory
    • Tribal 

OR

  • Be a student able to demonstrate interest in a career in state, local, tribal, or territorial emergency management. 
  1. Individuals must be committed to completing their certification application by February 28, 2025, and the exam by May 15, 2025.

Complete the application to be eligible for the lottery. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please download and complete the Self-Assessment tools prior to filling out the application. You will need to email the self-assessment tools to Barbara Arango at barango@iaem.com once you have completed the online application.

The deadline to submit your application is December 13, 2024. Questions can be directed to Barbara Arango (barango@iaem.com) All applicants who apply will be notified of the results the week of Dec. 16.

Note: IAEM is offering this opportunity using funding from FEMA. This opportunity is open only to

  1. Emergency managers employed at the state, local, tribal, or territorial levels, or
  2. Students able to demonstrate an interest in a career in state, local , tribal, or territorial emergency management.
