Join IAEM in the Climb to Colorado and have fun on our health and fitness journey. Participation will remind members to exercise daily and highlight the importance of mental health and wellness, even when life is busy. Networking among participants will be encouraged, and while having fun and getting healthy, participants will support the IAEM Scholarship Program. All participants will receive a special “Climb to Colorado” Challenge Coin. There will be prizes for the top three teams, top three individuals, and top three most improved individuals. The event is for everyone. If you do not walk, swim, or bike, but have an alternate exercise, let us know, and it will be added to the calculations.
This event is a win-win for you and the organization. Other than prizes for the participants, all money raised will go to the IAEM Scholarship Program to benefit future generations and emerging professionals in emergency management. Participation will be the daily reminder to move more. There is a connection between our activity level and our mental health and wellness. In addition, members will be able to network online with other teammates (who may be new connections) and all participants during this event.
The objective of this program is the race or “climb” against other teams. The race is from IAEM Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, to The Broadmoor, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the 2024 IAEM Annual Conference & EMEX will be held. Whichever team either makes it to The Broadmoor or makes it the farthest before the conference starts will earn winners bragging rights. The route is based on teams of 11 members and the CDC recommendation of 10,000 steps a day.
Distances will be tracked by daily steps to be recorded on weekly surveys sent every Friday. Participants may use any method to track steps, with some easy suggestions being a Fitbit/Apple Watch/Pedometer, the free “Health” app on every iPhone, or the free “Google Fit” app on Android.
Swimming and biking are also tracked in this program with these conversions.
This event is open to all IAEM members. If you do not or are unable to walk, swim, or bike, please join us and notify the program manager on the registration confirmation survey about the alternative exercise so a calculation can be added to the system.
This is offered exclusively to IAEM members. The fee to participate is $45. Following the event, the participants will be credited for donations to the IAEM Scholarship fund.
