The Emergency Management and Homeland Security Safe Events Initiative is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the National Homeland Security Association, the National Emergency Management Association, Big City Emergency Managers, and the International Association of Emergency Managers. By participating in this initiative, organizations pledge to work together to foster safe event environments that encourage engagement by diverse emergency management and homeland security communities.
The Safe Events Initiative focuses on developing strategies that member organizations can consistently implement as part of their conference and meeting processes to promote and foster safe events. We aim to share our Pledge and expand the number of organizations committed to fostering safe events within the profession.
The participating organizations of The Emergency Management and Homeland Security Safe Events Initiative affirm our commitment to fostering safe events for all. We believe that everyone attending a participating organization’s event should be able to do so in an environment free from harassment or discrimination.
Consistent with the core principles of emergency management and homeland security, we believe safe events encourage the sharing of diverse ideas and experiences, and they promote opportunities for professional development, networking, information exchange, and advocacy.
Through this collaborative initiative, we pledge to work together to foster safe event environments that encourage the engagement by diverse emergency management and homeland security communities.
By signing this pledge, we commit to the following actions:
