I am pleased to welcome you to The President’s Corner – where you will hear directly from the IAEM-USA President on the State of the Association. In doing so, I aim to provide a quarterly update to share information about current association activities and give a peek into the ongoing strategies and objectives that are the focus of my term as president.
IAEM shares information through various outlets: the IAEM Bulletin, IAEM Dispatch, IAEM Connect, membership emails, social media, and the bi-monthly Virtual Happy Hours. Additionally, we share updates at the annual business meeting and the annual and virtual conferences.
While that sounds like a lot of ways in which we share information, members are given a choice on whether or not they wish to receive updates from the association. I am also aware that some folks experience technology challenges when trying to access specific platforms—primarily because their places of work prohibit access. So, to reach the greatest number of people, both members and non-members, I have decided to post regular updates on a public-facing IAEM webpage.
For each State of the Association address, I will commit to providing updates, facts, and statistics in a largely unfiltered (uh oh!), candid, and straightforward approach. I hope you find my messages informative and helpful and that this establishes a continued platform for transparency from your elected association officers from here forward.
Post-Conference – IAEM24 – The President’s Banquet at the annual conference is traditionally a time when incoming presidents outline their vision and strategic initiatives for the year ahead. This year's banquet at the Broadmoor was no exception. President Carrie Speranza also chose to use that time at the podium to inspire industry-wide collaboration and teamwork and to issue a challenge to emergency managers everywhere. Read her message.
Fall 2024 – In addition to highlighting the health and well-being of the association, President Speranza, CEM, discusses five major initiatives: Government Affairs, the new Community and Member Engagement Committee, IAEM’s DEI efforts, the upcoming Annual Conference, and IAEM-USA leadership executive-level engagements.
