Stan Supinski, Ph.D. is often called the “father of Homeland Security education.” He is an Associate Professor at the Homeland Security Management Institute, Long Island University; the Director of Partnership Programs for the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security
Steve Recca is the director of the University and Agency Partnership Initiative (UAPI) for the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Center for Homeland Defense and Security, and concurrently serves as a senior advisor for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief programs with the Pacific Disaster Center, as well as Colorado Technical University’s Program Director for Homeland Security. • Mr. David Maxwell has served as Director of the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) and State Homeland Security Adviser since June 2006. He served as ADEM’s Deputy Director from March 2002 until this appointment. He has over 33 years of service with the agency.
Shelia McGhee, Faulkner County Office of Emergency Management director, was awarded the Central Area Emergency Management Coordinator of the Year and the State Emergency Management Coordinator of the Year for her work with community disaster preparedness and mitigation in Faulkner County, at the 2013 Arkansas Emergency Managers’ Association Annual Conference.
U.S. Senator Mark Pryor (if not in session) serves on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which is the chief oversight committee of the U.S. Senate.
Dr. Jan Kallberg is an Assistant Professor at Arkansas Tech University and a research fellow at Cyber Operations Lab, Cyber Security Research and Education Institute, The University of Texas at Dallas.
Members of IAEM-USA Region 6 attended the annual regional meeting on Apr. 20, 2012, at the Arkansas Tech University (ATU) Department of Emergency Management. The meeting attracted members from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as student members from ATU and Arkansas State University (ASU).
Speakers presented on topics that included: the role of FUSION Centers and Infragard in terrorism detection and deterrence; career opportunities for future graduates; and business continuity and emergency management. George Cossey, CEM, presented an informational session on the steps required in obtaining the CEM®. Matt Burks and Nathan Spicer, CEM, of Little Rock Emergency Management, and George Cossey, CEM, led a panel discussion on trends and opportunities in emergency management. Additional panel members included Ron Crane, Emergency Preparedness Manager, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and James DeHaven, CEM, INTEGRIS Health Oklahoma.
Additional speakers included Dr. Richard Idhe, ATU Department of Emergency Management, and Amy Fecher, Arkansas State Director of Save the Children. Plans for the 2013 meeting will be forthcoming this fall.
