Establishing Your Credentials in Emergency Management
The IAEM Certification Program sets the standard for excellence in emergency management by recognizing professionals who demonstrate knowledge, experience, and commitment to the field. Whether you’re applying for the Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation, understanding the specific requirements is important for your certification success.
Review the sidebar menu to dive deeper into what’s required for the initial certification, how to maintain your credential through recertification, and how to upgrade from AEM to CEM when you're ready to advance.
Once applicants receive the official notice from IAEM Headquarters about successfully earning the designation, they may use the “AEM” or “CEM” after their name. IAEM-USA has registered the certification marks “AEM®” and “CEM®” with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and certified individuals should use the registered trademark symbol when using the mark. Individuals must stop using the AEM/CEM designation if they do not recertify under the current program.
